Check your performance at a glance
Things you can do on your phone in five seconds:
Yes, it’s arrived.
Gain/Loss — the third item on the Christmas List — has been highly requested for a long time, and we’ve been testing the feature behind the scenes with our beta testers.
As there are a number of calculations that we had to take into account, it’s been a relatively complex feature to add to your app. Thanks to everyone who helped us test the feature. 🙌
What does the Gain/Loss value show?
The figure you see includes:
It does not include cash held in your account originating from deposits.
Does this include free shares I received?
Free shares are part of your portfolio! If you received a free share, and the value of this share has increased/decreased, this amount will be reflected in your Gain/Loss.
The value of your share at the point of you receiving it won’t count towards this though, only the Gain/Loss. So if the share was worth £6, and has risen to £6.50, then 50p will be reflected in your figure.
Coming next: Benchmarking
Understanding your Portfolio with Gain/Loss is just one of the things we’re working on to give you deeper insights into your holdings.
Another feature on the Christmas List, Benchmarking, which will show your performance versus the market.
Stay tuned for that feature which will arrive shortly.
P.S. A word about market volatility
You may be checking in your Portfolio a little more now that you can see your Gain/Loss at a glance, and it’s worth a reminder of the basics of market volatility. 🎢
Market volatility is a measure of how much the prices of an asset or index vary over time. It’s always there, and it can be high or low, with high volatility referring to a period of uncertain, rapidly changing market conditions.
It goes up and down for a few reasons, including economic anxiety, global political strife, trade tensions, worries that stock prices have become overvalued, and a host of other reasons.
However you choose to invest, it’s always worth remembering to make decisions according to your timeline and outlook.
Important Information

When you invest, your capital is at risk. The value of your portfolio can go down as well as up and you may get back less than you invest. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
